Tennis legend Roger Federer is returning to the court and will play a doubles exhibition match at the Masters Series tournament in Shanghai in October.
In a video released by the organizers of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, the Swiss said: “Hello, I’m Roger and I’m really happy to be back in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters”.
“Shanghai has always been a special place for me, with wonderful fans, unforgettable memories and a true love for the game. I look forward to seeing you on October 10”, he added.
The 44-year-old Swiss will play a doubles exhibition match alongside Hong Kong actor and film producer Donnie Yen, Chinese actor Wu Lei and former doubles world No 3 Chinese player Zheng Jie.
The last time tennis fans saw Federer in a professional match was in September 2022 at the Laver Cup, when he faced Rafael Nadal in doubles in what turned out to be his farewell match for Team Europe. The pair lost by 1-2 (6:4, 6:7(2), 9:11) to Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe of Team World.
