Novak Djokovic won 12 of his last 14 games and defeated Lorenzo Musetti by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2) to advance to the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters 1000 Miami Open with prize money 11.25 million USD.
Novak Djokovic was trailing after an early break. That moment proved crucial as the 40-time ATP Masters 1000 winner speeded up. The fourth seed won nine straight games to turn his lead into a crushing one, ultimately sealing a place in the last eight after an hour and 23 minutes of play.
Novak Djokovic hit 18 winners and committed 17 unforced errors in the match, which was watched live by Serena Williams and Juan Martin del Potro, who was seated in his box.
The win today brought Nole within three wins of his 100th ATP Tour title.
“It was great to see Del Po. He’s a long-time friend and rival of mine and I’m extremely happy, he was supporting me in this match. It was incredible! It’s the first time he’s in my box and I want to thank him for coming. Serena also surprised me very pleasantly”, said Novak Djokovic after the match. “I pointed to her on a passing shot and asked her if she was okay. She said, ‘Yeah, it was okay,’ and when Serena says that, it’s okay. So yeah, it’s great to have them both on my side”, added he.
The next opponent of Novak Djokovic is Sebastian Korda (USA), who eliminated Gael Monfils by 2-1 (6:4, 2:6, 6:4).
Taylor Fritz won by 2-0 (6:3, 7:5) against Adam Walton (Australia) to also secure a spot in the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters 1000 Miami Open tennis tournament. The third-seeded American will face 29th-seeded Matteo Berrettini, who won by 2-0 (6:3, 7:5) against Alex de Minaur (Australia).
