Carlos Alcaraz started his US Open campaign with a convincing victory. The Spaniard had a tough draw in the first round, but he overcame American serving specialist Reilly Opelka by 3-0 (6:4, 7:5, 6:4).
Carlos Alcaraz surprisingly appeared on court with a shaved head. This, of course, caused a lot of reactions, but it didn’t seem to bother the Spaniard much.
Despite the dangerous opponent, Carlos Alcaraz didn’t lose a set. The first two sets, which ended 6:4 and 7:5, were relatively even, but the Spanish tennis star was hitting his shots at the right moment. The decisive third set was no exception.
At 4:4, Reilly Opelka shot himself in the foot. This happened on his serve. On a break point, he made a double fault, after which Carlos Alcaraz took the advantage and had a chance to close the match.
“It was a tough match. Reilly Opelka is a really good tennis player. My new haircut? I have to ask people if they like it. Do you like the new haircut?”, Carlitos addressed the crowd and received a standing ovation.
In the next round, Carlos Alcaraz will face Italian player Mattia Bellucci.
