Marin Cilic was eliminated at the start of the US Open. The 36-year-old Croatian tennis player was defeated by Alexander Bublik after 3-0 (6:4, 6:1, 6:4).
The 29-year-old Kazakhstani tennis player hit 16 aces and won 95% of his first serve points, while the Croatian had only one break point in the first set, which he did not take advantage of.
It was the first match for both tennis players in more than a month, as they missed the American tour in the summer. Marin Cilic’s previous appearance at the US Open was in 2022, when he reached the Round of 16, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz, the eventual champion in this edition of the tournament.
The 2014 US Open champion has now won 110,000 USD in prize money and is currently ranked 57th in the ATP rankings. Marin Cilic’s next tournament is the ATP 250 Hangzhou Open, which begins on September 15, where he will defend his title from last year.
