
The Russian teenage talent Mirra Andreeva defeated the top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) and won the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open title. Mirra Andreeva made a fantastic comeback by 2-1 (2:6, 6:4, 6:3) after 2:06 hours of play to win her second consecutive WTA 1000 title.
Aryna Sabalenka started strongly and won the first set by 6:2 and breaking twice her young opponent in the fourth and eighth game. Although she needed only 37 mins to take the win, her opponent had her chances after missing 4 breakpoints.
The second set started very hard for Aryna Sabalenka, who saved three breakpoints to win her first serve games. On her part, Mirra Andreeva equalized to 1:1 relatively easy. The Russian teenager broke in the third game and after confirming the break she had a comfortable advance by 3:1. The Russian talent needed to save two breakpoints in the sixth game, but kept her lead. At the end, she succeeded to win the set by 6:4 and equalized the score.
The third decisive set started with exchange of break after which Mirra Andreeva got e lead of 2:1. She won her next serve game to confirm her lead of 3:1, which gave the young Russian talent wings to keep her pace and win the set by 6:3. Thus, Mirra Andreeva won the match and the title of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open.
In February, Mirra Andreeva triumphed at the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, winning her first WTA 1000 title.
