Jack Draper is optimistic of another strong performance at the US Open after recovering from a hand injury. The British number one has returned to the US Open after reaching the semi-finals 12 months ago, but his first-round match against qualifier Federico Agustin Gomez on Monday will be his first since losing in the second round of Wimbledon to Marin Cilic more than seven weeks ago.
Jack Draper revealed that he had been playing with pain in his left arm, and the injury was diagnosed as a bone bruise, which forced him to miss the Masters tournaments in Canada and Cincinnati.
“I first started feeling pain towards the middle of the clay season. It got worse and worse. Then on grass it started to hurt a lot, so I didn’t know what I was dealing with. I had a bit of a bruise on my humerus on the left side”, explained the British tennis player. “It’s one of those things where if you keep playing it can get very, very serious. I had to take a break. A complex injury and definitely one that I had to take care of”, added Jack Draper.
Jack Draper is currently world’s number 5 in the ATP rankings.
“I’m very excited to be back in New York and competing again, doing what I love most”, he concluded.
