World’s number one and top-seed Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) started successfully at the WTA 1000 Miami Open, defeating Viktoriya Tomova (Bulgaria) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:0) in 59 minutes of play.
Viktoriya Tomova started the match well, showed aggression and strong play to open the match with a break at 30 on the first attempt. However, Aryna Sabalenka picked up the pace and returned the break, then took the next four games to pull with a confident 5:1. Viktoriya Tomova took advantage of her opponent’s relaxation and lowering of the level and broke the serve for the second time. After that, she took her serve with confident rallies, but in the end there was nothing she could do and she gave up at 3:6.
In the second set, Aryna Sabalenka did not give the Bulgarian a single game, only experiencing any problems at 3:0 and 5:0 and having to save three attempts to break Viktoriya Tomova.
In the next third round, Aryna Sabalenka will face Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
