Australian player Alex de Minaur, who is world’s No 8, was knocked out in his first match of the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati with prize money of 9.19 million USD, losing to American tennis player Reilly Opelka by 0-2 (6:7, 4:6).
Alex de Minaur missed seven break points in the second set and then lost his serve on his opponent’s only opportunity. The 211-cm giant Reilly Opelka will next face Francisco Comesana of Argentina, who advanced after his opponent Luciano Darderi of Italy retired with an injury at 1-0 (6:4, 3:1).
Andrey Rublev also advanced to the third round after beating Learner Tien by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3). In the next phase he will face the Australian tennis player Alexei Popyrin, who defeated Martin Landaluce of Spain by 2-0 (7:6, 6:3).
Czech players Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik are also ahead in the tournament. Jiri Lehecka defeated Tristan Boyer (USA) in three sets – 2-1 (4:6, 6:1, 6:4) in nearly two hours. He will face Adam Walton (Australia) in the next round. Jakub Mensik eliminated another American – Ethan Quinn, with 2-0 (6:4, 6:2).
