Stefanos Tsitsipas started strongly at the US Open. The Greek tennis star has been struggling with his form for months, but on Tuesday night he won convincingly against Alexandre Muller by 3-1 (4:6, 6:0, 6:1, 7:6)
Stefanos Tsitsipas is going through a rather turbulent period. In July, it became clear that he had split from his fellow tennis player Paula Badosa. The two had been a couple since 2023, and last year they also had a brief separation. Subsequently, the former world number three announced that he was also ending his work with his coach Goran Ivanisevic, with whom he had been partnered since May 2025.
Now Stefanos Tsitsipas had to show that he had found a way out of the crisis. However, he had a difficult start to the Grand Slam tournament. The French tennis player Alexandre Muller, who is ten places lower in the world rankings, won the first set by 6:4. But then Stefanos Tsitsipas fought back with full force. He took the second set by 6:0 and then took the lead, winning the third by 6:1. It took the 27-year-old Greek less than an hour to turn his deficit into a lead.
However, Stefanos Tsitsipas had serious difficulties in the fourth set. Only in the tiebreak he finally succeeded to close the match with Muller at 7:6(5).
The next opponent of Stefanos Tsitsipas will be Daniel Altmaier (Germany), who had a tought first round match versus Hamad Medjedovic (Serbia) but finally won by 3-2 (7:5, 6:7(3), 7:6(7), 6:7(5), 6:4)
