The world’s number one Jannik Sinner will play in the ATP 500 Hamburg Open, which will be his last tournament before the French Open / Roland Garros.
The Australian and US Open champion is currently serving a three-month suspension that will expire in early May and will first play in the ATP Masters 1000 clay-court tournament in Rome, which begins on May 7. Former tournament champion Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) and Indian Wells Open runner-up Holger Rune (Denmark) have also confirmed their participation in Hamburg. Roland Garros begins on May 25.
“I’m excited to make my debut at the Hamburg Open, which is a tournament that has marked the history of the sport”, said the Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner.
Tournament director Enric Molina Moore called Jannik Sinner’s participation “a great added value for the competition and a historic moment”.
The tournament announcement emphasized that Jannik Sinner is the first number one to play in Hamburg since Roger Federer in 2008. The Hamburg tournament returned in May after several years of being held in July.
