Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon title after defeating two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final. The Italian won by 3-1 (4:6, 6:4, 6:4, 6:4) in front of his parents and brother, and he did not hide that their presence helped him a lot.
“This is a very special moment for me. My parents and my brother were here. Special thanks to my brother, who will probably miss the Formula 1 race”, shared Jannik Sinner with a smile. “Winning the tournament was more difficult emotionally than physically. I suffered a heavy loss in Paris, but I was able to quickly understand where I went wrong and kept working, and that is the most important thing”, stressed the Italian.
Jannik Sinner was peremptory in the last two sets, winning more than 90% of his first serve points.
“I am very happy with how I served in the last game, but there were tense moments before that. In a three-out-of-five-set format, any mistake can turn the tide of the match. However, I managed to stay focused”, commented Jannik Sinner. “Carlos, I always have a hard time against you. We have an incredible relationship off the court, and our rivalry builds both of us as tennis players. I wish you many more times to hold this trophy in your hands, even though you have already won it twice. I am grateful to be healthy and surrounded by exceptional people. I am fulfilling my dreams and that is incredible”, added the new champion.
