Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has advanced to the second round of the US Open. The Polish tennis star, who won the 2022 title in New York, started with a 2-0 (6:1, 6:2) win over Emiliana Arango of Colombia. The match lasted just 61 minutes.
The second-seeded Iga Swiatek controlled the match throughout and despite Emiliana Arango’s efforts, the Colombian had no chance of holding off one of the main favorites for the title.
In the second round, Iga Swiatek will face the world’s number 66 Suzan Lamens. The Dutchwoman qualified for this phase after a 2-0 (6:4, 6:2) victory over wildcard Valerie Glozman of the United States.
In one of the most intriguing first-round matches at the US Open, the 27th-seeded Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk defeated Katie Boulter (Great Britain) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4). Marta Kostyuk hit nine aces to none for Katie Boulter and added 19 winners to the 10 for British tennis player. In the next round, the Ukrainian will face Zeynep Sonmez (Turkey), who defeated Katie Volynets (USA) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:4).
