The 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu has parted ways with her latest coach. Her partnership with Vladimir Platenik lasted just 14 days before the two sides decided to end their cooperation, considering that they were not going in the right direction. The Slovak specialist was on trial with the British tennis player, but it seems that he did not pass the test.
In her only match under Vladimir Platenik’s guidance, Emma Raducanu lost to Moyuka Uchijima (Japan) by 0-2 (3:6, 2:6) in the start of WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open. The separation between the two occurred the day before the start of her participation at the WTA 1000 Miami Open. The Slovak was not seen in Emma Raducanu’s box during her 2-0 (6:2, 6:1) victory over Japanese wild card Sayaka Ishii yesterday.
“Emma and Vladimir have parted ways. Emma has great respect for Vlado and the work they started, but she is now focused on performing at her best here in Miami after a solid start and will continue to look for the right coach for her”, says the statement of the Emma Raducanu’s team.
The Slovak was the seventh coach in the short career of the 22-year-old Emma Raducanu, who won the US Open as a qualifier in 2021. In an interview with the Slovak press during the tournament in Indian Wells, he described working with the Briton as “coaching suicide”.
Thus, Emma Raducanu continues to look for a coach who would work with her on a permanent basis and with a long-term vision. The previous one, Nick Cavaday, withdrew for health reasons after the Australian Open in January, where Emma Raducanu lost to Iga Swiatek in the first round. During their 14 months together, Nick Cavaday helped the Briton return to the world’s top 60 after surgeries on both wrists and an ankle.
