Fifth-seeded Jack Draper (Great Britain) has withdrawn from the US Open before his second-round match against Zizou Bergs (Belgium) due to injury, announced the organizers of the final Grand Slam of the year.
Jack Draper reached the second round after beating Argentine qualifier Federico Agustin Gomez on Monday while battling a left hand problem that has kept him out of action since losing in the second round at Wimbledon last month.
“Hi guys, I’m sorry to have to tell you that I’m withdrawing from the US Open. I tried to be here and give myself every chance to play, but the discomfort in my hand has become too much and I need to do what’s right and take care of myself. Thank you for all the support”, wrote Jack Draper on social media.
The 23-year-old tennis player reached the semifinals of last year’s tournament before losing to Jannik Sinner.
